Chelwood’s mission is to provide: ‘Excellent personalised early childhood education for every child’
We focusses on developing confident and independent children who are able to make informed choices and decisions for themselves, whilst developing a caring and considerate and responsible attitude towards other people and their environment.  We believe that the consistency provided by regular sessions and routines, a familiar and consistent peer group and staff team, are significant factors in developing these life skills.

A Nursery School in Action - Explore Rachel Mcmillan

We are a world renowned, Ofsted Outstanding Nursery School. Opened in 1914 we are thought to be the first ‘Open Air’ Nursery School in England.

Our staff are a very experienced and dedicated team and include qualified teachers with an Early Years specialism, practitioners and teaching assistants. We believe very strongly that children have an inbuilt drive to learn and that a young child’s natural way of learning is through play, following their own interests and curiosities. The staff support children’s emotional well-being and develop children’s learning by encouraging and helping thinking through conversation and by providing a rich and varied curriculum.

We are a small, warm and welcoming school and Children’s Centre. We provide a safe, stimulating and inclusive learning environment for children full of challenging learning opportunities.

We believe that children learn with their bodies and part of our curriculum takes place in our beautiful garden, which encourages the children to be active, and generates enthusiasm for learning new skills and interests. With us they gain firm foundations for their future learning and development.
